Tampa Volunteers build homes to fight Breast Cancer

Tampa, FL — In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Habitat for Humanity teamed up to build two Tampa homes.

Crews were out early this morning working on the 2nd annual Suzie Q. Blitz Build, which includes the first women build house, a project constructed solely with female volunteers and supervisors. It will take about seven days to build the homes. One of the homeowners says not living in an apartment will be a change of pace.

“Different, different. It’s your house. It’s going to be my house and I stop paying for other people. It’s going to be for me. It’s going to be different,” says future homeowner Jahayra Gonzalez. A portion of the event’s proceeds will benefit the Moffitt Cancer Center. (source 10connects – chanel10.com)

Design Sarah Fisher’s Helmet in Support of Komen for the Cure

Helmet Will be Worn in Support of Susan G. Komen For the Cure’s promise to save lives and end breast cancer forever.

INDIANAPOLIS — Sarah Fisher, of Sarah Fisher Racing (SFR), announced a unique opportunity for her fans to play a role in her upcoming race at Homestead-Miami Speedway (HMS) on Oct. 10, 2009. Fisher wants her fans to design a helmet to match the pink firesuit she will be wearing in support of Susan G. Komen For the Cure’s promise to save lives and end breast cancer forever. The winner of the design contest will have their artwork displayed in front of national media and thousands of race fans, as well as receive a replica painted helmet as a memento.

“We have the best fans at SFR and we are constantly trying to think of new ways to bring them closer to the sport,” said Fisher. “Like me, a lot of them have lost loved ones to breast cancer. Designing my helmet is a cool way to get my fans more involved in our support of Komen for the Cure, as well as a way to bring my fans into the car with me.”

This is the first time Fisher has changed the design of her helmet as a professional driver. Her current design was introduced in 1999 and is trademarked for her use. The only exception was at Kentucky Speedway when Fisher had all her fans autograph her helmet for her return to the IndyCar Series in 2006. Fisher’s wardrobe is not the only thing changing for the Miami race. Her car also will be turning pink to help raise money and awareness for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Fisher has partnered with Komen and her primary sponsor Dollar General to help fight the battle against breast cancer.

“My team and our partners are committed to decreasing the number of women affected by this growing global problem,” said Fisher. “We hope, in this effort, to set an example that others will follow so that we can protect our sisters, mothers and friends from a disease that is stealing them by the millions.”

Fans will be able to find the basic guidelines for the contest including submission criteria and a downloadable illustrated helmet file at http://indycarnation.indycar.com. The design contest launches Aug. 25 and runs through Sept. 25. The winner will be chosen by Fisher and announced by SFR on Sept. 28.
